Does Custom Fabrication Always Beat Off-the-Shelf?

Not always. It depends on the severity and complexity of your foot drop. For mild, unilateral foot drop with no significant spasticity or foot deformity, a well-fitted prefabricated AFO may perform comparably to a custom device for basic daily activities. Braces are not permanent fixtures. They wear, they warp slightly with body heat, and they stop fitting as your body changes.
